Archive / History of Monolab

To keep the archive/history clear for the future, all entries and data from 1999 to 2017 have been combined relatively painlessly. The downloads are readily and fairly easy to find, so I've removed the quick links from the news entries. I may well gradually reinstate the quick downloads and Soundcloud/Hearthis links.

News June 11, 2016 & January 17, 2017 & 2025 (8 years later...) - 3 Trance Tracks + 1 Acid House Track

This time, only 8 years late, the last two releases before my more or less departure. I mentioned this fact above. I simply forgot to add and upload the two tracks here back then.

Release 88: Time Jump 1988 - Acid House Edit

I've always wanted to release a proper Acid House track, and this gem is the result. The acid sound comes from a plugin (Phosycon 1.0), and I controlled all the buttons individually via MIDI CC or the pattern effect. It was a blast back then. Almost 6 minutes and 136 bpm.

Release 87: Your Freedom Is an Illusion - Progressive Edit

A really nice "old school" trance track. Over 9 minutes long, and the main melody still blows me away 8 years later. It even got praise from the old master DAC, from Radical Rhythms back then.

Release 85: Fragments of the Future - Structure Edit The trance continues. The inspiration for this and the following track was Ananda Shanti (an artist on Soundcloud, among others). In contrast to "Fate" (Destiny), some melody parts have quite driving ARPS. 8.20 min - 144 BPM.

Release 86: Man Determines His Destiny - The East Edit Man Determines His Destiny, on the other hand, has a slight Schranz touch.
Some might call it hard trance or progressive trance. 6.40 min - 145 BPM.

News April 16, 2016 - Comeback... Comeback... Comeback... Comeback

After a 10-year hiatus and a lot of creative development, I'm celebrating a more or less surprising comeback. A lot of time has passed since then, and in that sense, I never really stopped making music. The only problem was that I'd somehow reached a standstill. Apart from that, I initially lacked the time, and later, I simply lacked the motivation. Basically, the web music story was over for me.

At the beginning of the year, Philipp "Stimpy" Giebel approached me about a radio show about Radical Rhythms. RR was my first web label, and back then, we were something of pioneers in this field. Long story short: After countless emails and thoughts about my music, the radio show, and a possible comeback, Philipp successfully persuaded me to restart (or reload). It took almost half a year until I a. had enough material together, and b. I've rediscovered my creativity (I think). However, the RR show and Stimpy have played a large part in this comeback. Under Links, you'll find the show, his radio, and the new Radical Rhythms Archive.

Apart from that, it should be mentioned that all downloads can also be found as streams on Soundcloud. First, there's a link to the respective stream on the release, and second, there's a link to Soundcloud in the right-hand menu. For technical and time-related reasons, the new releases have been available on Soundcloud for a while. In the future, I'll of course try to release them relatively parallel.

Release 79: Past - Other Timeline Edit - 6.35 min.

This deep house track was essentially already finished in 2010. 130 BPM, an incoming bassline, and typical house beats are at the forefront. Remix of Release 74.

Release 80: Walking down the Street - Tech Edit - 6.09 min.

The house techno continues. Another remix of a very old Radical Rhythms track (mid-90s). The beats and some elements can be found in classic house tracks, but the focus is on a more technical house. Also at 130 bpm.

Release 81: Expedition to Another World Trance EP

1: Sonnensturm - Original Version - 6.16 min. - 146 bpm
2: Neutronenstern - Original Version - 6.13 min. - 146 bpm
3: Eine andere Welt - Die Ankunft Edit - 6.44 min. - 144 bpm

I started some of the tracks on this EP years ago, but only really tracked the final versions this year. Sonnensturm ended up with four different versions, and our highly esteemed VIP test listener Stimpy was almost ready to jump ship. Essentially, the individual tracks are meant to represent a journey. Theoretically, I could write a nice story here, but my poetic side isn't really that pronounced. Apart from that, these are all quite fast and dynamic trance songs. You could call them psytrance, but essentially, for me, it's still trance. Qualitatively, it's a quantum leap from my old trance stories.

Release 82: Richtungswechsel - Einweg Edit - 6.01 min.

I'm generally a deep house fan, and all the new house styles (dirty, tropic, EDM, or future house) have never really been my thing. However, you should never ignore the dark side of the force, and Richtungswechsel is the first of my new, well, fitting :), house styles. Personally, I'd classify it as hard house, but my old Schranz works were a lot heavier. Current projects have even more EDM influences, but are still fundamentally house tracks. 130 bpm Cosmic Standard bpm.

Release 83: Movement Phase - Original Version - 5.49 min.

I think the change of direction and movement phase indicate the direction my house music is heading in. As I said, current projects lean more towards EDM or future house. Apart from that, I still value intense bass and beats. Nothing is more monotonous than a boom, boom, and melody. In that sense, it would actually be RAVE at 130 bpm.

Release 84: Waveforms - Waves 2.0 Edit - 6.21 min.

The last track from the old line, or rather, the one I started in the last few years and brought to a successful conclusion last year. It can also be classified as harder trance or psytrance. A smooth 146 bpm.

So... after a nine-year break, a massive package of new tracks just had to be released. One thing is certain: it won't take another nine years for good old Cosmic to be back in full effect.
